Katrina made landfall in the area of Buras-Triumph in Louisiana on Aug. 29, 2005, a town of only about 3500 people at the time the hurricane hit. Hurricane Katrina had already crossed Florida four days earlier, on her way to her second landfall. When was hurricane Katrina about to landfall It then began to weaken as it passed along the Gulf Coast. Initially, Katrina was a tropical depression. It formed on August 23, 2005, when Tropical Depression and a tropical wave combined. On August 25, the depression intensified into a tropical storm as it moved toward Florida, indicating that it would have the potential to become a hurricane. Hurricane Ida arrived near Port Fourchon on Sunday, stronger than Katrina when it hit - with winds of 150mph and a Category 4 hurricane. While Ida and Katrina made landfall on about the same date, Ida made landfall with a higher pressure of 930mb, whereas Katrina's maximum pressure was 920mb.
