Mid-cap stocks are stocks of mid-cap or valued companies. They are named so because they are somewhere between small large-cap stocks. A share is categorized as mid-cap when the whole value of all outstanding shares in the company falls between 2 billion and 10 billion. Here's how stocks are generally ranked based on market capitalization. A stock is mid-cap when the total value of all company's shares outstanding is between $2 bn and $10 bn.

Many investors are happy to own stocks in compact, speedy growing companies, many of them favor stocks of big established companies that offer a sense of firmness and safety. Nonetheless, almost all the successful fortunate investors tend to miss an important part of the stock market: that is the mid-cap stocks.
