If you’ve ever used the Google Maps app to navigate your way around town, you’ve probably noticed the little red pins that show up on the map when you search for a place. These “pin drops” show you the exact location of the place you’re looking for. But sometimes, when you’re using the app, a pin drop will appear on the map even though you didn’t search for that place. This means that someone else has dropped a pin in the wrong place — and the pin is preventing you from seeing the correct location. You’re walking down a street in a new town when you spot a sign for a restaurant that looks like a good place to eat. You’re curious to try the cuisine, so you head in the direction of the sign, hoping to find the restaurant. You turn the corner and see the sign again, but this time it’s on the other side of the street. You realize that the sign must have been accidentally dropped by the person who was originally supposed to place it on the first side of the street. You’ve been there: you’re navigating somewhere new and you need to find a specific landmark. Chances are you’ve used Google Maps to find your way there, but sometimes you need to drop a pin in the app to keep track of where you are in the world. Trouble is, you accidentally dropped the pin in the wrong place and now you’re not sure how to get it back in the right place.
