The average one-way commuting time in the U.S. is 27.1 minutes—that’s nearly an hour each day spent getting to and from work, and it really adds up. According to the Auto Insurance Centre, commuters spend about 100 hours commuting and 41 hours stuck in traffic each year. The 3.9 million employees who work from home at least half time reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of taking more than 600,000 cars off the road for an entire year, according to the “State of Telecommuting in the U.S. Employee Workforce” report. A whopping 7.8 billion vehicle miles aren’t traveled each year for those who work at least part-time from home, 3 million tons of greenhouse gases (GHG) are avoided, and oil savings reach $980 million.

The opposite of A La Carte is ‘Table d’hote’. The literal meaning of the French phrase is "by the card," although it's used in both languages to mean "according to the menu." The opposite of a la carte is table d’hôte, or "meal served at a fixed price."

Posted at: What is the opposite of A La Carte?

The earliest examples of à la carte are from 1816 for the adjectival use ("à la carte meal", for example) and from 1821 for the adverbial use ("meals were served à la carte"). This pre-dates the use of the word menu, which came into English in the 1830s.

Posted at: When was A La Carte first used?

Generally A La Carte is more expensive than a set menu. That set meals usually cost a lot less than the same items a la carte is familiar to all restaurant-goers. The reasons are simple, the set menu is a promotion deal to attract customers to the more expensive a la carte meals.

Usually, the setup is made for the set service. Just so, what is ala carte and table d'hote? A la carte is a method where the customers can order any of the separately priced menu items available whereas table d' hôte is a menu where multi-course meals with only a few choices are charged at a fixed total price.

Posted at: What is the difference between A La Carte and a set menu?

In restaurants, à la carte is the practice of ordering individual dishes from a menu in a restaurant, as opposed to table d'hôte, where a set menu is offered. When a dish at a restaurant is offered a la carte, it means the dish is ordered individually. It is not a part of a larger meal or a course of dishes. If you order a steak a la carte, you get a steak and just a steak.

German authorities believe this has cost that country’s treasury 10 billion euros in lost revenue. But there may be more than ten other European countries affected; with estimates saying around 55 billion euros may have been lost to those nations’ treasuries. With a number of banks having been raided as part of Europe’s growing *****-Ex scandal, investigators are focusing on precisely how (and by whom) the loophole was exploited to benefit so many.

Posted at: What is the estimated size of Cumex scandal?

Banks and stockbrokers rapidly traded shares with ("*****") and without ("ex") dividend rights, in a way that enabled them to hide the identity of the actual owner. This meant that they could agree to sell a company stock before the dividend was paid out but then deliver it after the dividend had been paid. This tactic enabled both parties to claim tax rebates on capital gains tax - a tax that had only been paid once – and rapid trading between various parties could give the appearance of...
