Will Honda be able to dominate the EV market?

Over the next ten years, Honda Motor Co Ltd, a Japanese automaker, aims to spend over 8.5 trillion yen on research and development. By 2030, Honda plans to provide more than 30 electric vehicle models around the world. Honda also stated that by 2030, they expect to create 2 million electrified vehicles per year.

Honda announced that it would invest 34 billion yen in a demonstration line for solid-state battery production. Last month, Honda announced a partnership with Sony to develop electric vehicles.

Honda will rely on external funding if needed, according to Kohei Takeuchi. Honda also expects to launch two mid-to-large EV cars in North America by the end of the year, a Honda Prologue SUV and an Acura SUV. Honda and GM just announced a cooperation to co-develop electric vehicles in North America utilising GM's ultium platform by 2027. In addition, the manufacturer has stated that it will construct a dedicated EV production line in North America.

To use the Ultium architecture and the EV platform, Honda will rely on its cooperation with GM. The manufacturer is completely focused on developing its architecture, which will include both hardware and software layers and will be cloud-connected. Honda is on track to meet its goal of reducing worldwide automotive manufacturing by 10%. By 2030, Honda plans to release more than 30 electric car models around the world.
