Earth has suddenly increased its speed and On June 29, 2022, it is recorded that earth completed the shortest day since on that particular day. Since the 1960s, scientists started keeping records and in recent time they have come up with the analysis that earth is completing the full rotation 1.59 milliseconds faster than usual.

Interestingly, this terrestrial haste was seen in 2020 also. That particular year, earth’s speed recorded 28 shortest days on record, and it continued spinning rapidly into 2021 and 2022.

As we know earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours, or every 86,400 seconds. But for several reasons, including a complicated interior of earth - every day does not have the same length as the day before.

One reason affecting the speed of the earth can be the “Chandler wobble.” The phenomenon discovered in the 1800s, states that the not-quite-perfectly-round Earth trembles, like a spinning top as it slows down.

According to scientists another reason can be climate change affecting the rotational speed of the planet. The shape of the Earth changes slightly when glaciers melt into the ocean.  But the present speed increase is not known yet.
