Final Fantasy is a series of role-playing games developed by Square Enix. The games in the series are generally set within a universe based on the myths and legends of a fictional world called the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" or "Fabula Nox”. Final Fantasy is a video game franchise best known for its role-playing games. Final Fantasy games have been released on nearly every major video game platform and have sold millions of copies worldwide. Final Fantasy games are often credited with popularizing JRPGs, or Japanese role-playing games, in the west. The first game in the franchise, Final Fantasy, was originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987.
