Gloria Jean Watkins (September 25, 1952 – December 15, 2021) was highly recognized through her pen call bell hooks. She became an American author, professor, feminist, and social activist. The tag "bell hooks" was borrowed from her great-grandmother’s name Bell Blair Hooks. The focus of hooks' writing became the intersectionality of race, capitalism, and gender, and what she defined as their capacity to provide and perpetuate structures of oppression and sophistication domination. She has 30 books published and several articles that have been shown as many documentary movies. She also took part in many public lectures.  Her effort was addressed basically on mass media, class, gender, race, sexuality,  history, art, and feminism. She founded the Bell Hooks Institute at Berea College in Berea, Kentucky in the year 2014.
