Besides the conflict between Apple’s proprietary opt-out and a standards-based opt-in, we see the movement here as positive for users and the advertising ecosystem. Users get a choice of whether to share precise location data. In the case of Apple’s feature, even when a user opts out an advertiser could still tailor an ad to the approximate location of a user. Positive marks on user choice. Negative marks on going it alone and not adopting standards, which in this case are more conservative than Apple’s.
