Plants vary, like fir, ponderosa pine, and aspen prefer the snowy high-country winters, while pinon, cliffrose, and mesquite flourish in the desert heat. Likewise, animal life is diverse. Tiny pinon mice, golden eagles, and mountain lions are all found in Zion National Park. While Zion is home to many different kinds of snakes, the western rattlesnake, also known as the Great Basin rattlesnake, is the only venomous snake in the park.
