News about Russian hacking on Tuesday, Facebook announced that they shut down the network that hacked Ukrainian public figures’ social media accounts.

The social network giant claims that the hackers were able to create fake profiles and pages on Facebook and Instagram with the help of Ukrainian phone numbers. The hackers then used these fake profiles to spread political messages in Ukraine.

Facebook has been under fire recently for not taking enough precautions to protect its users from similar attacks. This is not the first time Facebook has been accused of being a tool for hacking and propaganda by Russian-sponsored groups, who have also targeted Twitter, YouTube, and Google.
